Technology
The FNEC Technology Department was established to assist First Nations communities in promoting ICT integration in the classroom and to improve their access to the Internet. The Technology Department's objectives are to encourage the implementation of ICT's within the communities and to coordinate technology support programs.
Strategic Objectives
- To provide user and technical support and consultation to the users of videoconference system that the FNEC has installed in its 22 member communities.
- Continue to manage the First Nations SchoolNet program offered by INAC that enables band schools in First Nations communities in Quebec, except the Cree and Inuit Nations, to participate in ICT-based initiatives.
- To offer help desk services such as technical assistance and consultation to First Nations schools needing support in the area of ICTs.
- To advocate the technological concerns and needs of member communities that define the challenges faced at the local and regional levels.
- To promote the technological achievements of all the FNEC-member communities so that the communities, First Nations regional organizations, and other interest groups invest at the local level.
The FNEC offers technological solutions pertaining to technical support, teleconferencing and videoconferencing as well training sessions on Microsoft Office 2007.
The FNEC has built a solid expertise in the field of technology. We provide technical support services at competitive prices. Whether technical support is provided remotely or on site, the hourly rate is the same. Clients in need of quality technical support will be pleased to use our state-of-the-art data center which allows shared server hosting. The FNEC has a licensing agreement for software use and can negotiate, on your behalf, prices for certain software (Microsoft, Adobe, etc.) and equipment (computers, servers, SMART board and digital cameras, to name only a few examples). You can thus benefit from important discounts. Unlimited bandwidth and firewall security ensure an efficient and productive environment.
Are you looking to make your meetings more cost-effective? Common sense dictate that Video- and teleconferencing services can represent economies of scale. The FNEC has installed videoconferencing systems in 56 sites distributed amongst thirty-two First Nations communities in Quebec. We offer quality services adapted to your needs in terms of virtual meetings. The FNEC provides multipoint and multiplatform connectivity services as well as recording services. Moreover, clients can rent one of the three FNEC state-of-the-art technology rooms at the FNEC. In need of training? You can register for training sessions which will be offered in Wendake. The courses offered from the Office 2007 Suite are Outlook, Excel and Word. Solutions can be tailored to the needs of your company. Training sessions, lasting three hours, are meant for beginners and no equipment is required.
