Management Department

FNEC Management receives its mandates from the General Assembly, which meets three times a year, and from the Chiefs' Special Assembly. The Management ensures that all mandates that it receives are dealt with diligently and professionally. It does the appropriate research and takes the necessary measures within the established deadlines. In addition, the Management creates and maintains positive relations with partners and political leaders who work in the field of education, while respecting for the values and foundations of the FNEC.

Communications and Editing Department

The Editing and Documentation Department is responsible for the overall quality and accuracy of the various documents produced by the association. The department sees to the page layout, translation into both official languages and assembling of documents. In addition, the team attends to the publishing of the FNEC Newspaper and jointly works with graphic designers and printers. It is also responsible for archiving documents and managing the documentation centre. It participates in the coordination and logistics of general and special assemblies, training sessions, and special events. The team works in cooperation with the other departments to carry out the various mandates of the FNEC.

Programs and Finance Department

The Programs and Finance Department is responsible for the financial management of the FNEC and the Technology Department. It sees to all of the financial operations of the office, e.g.: including purchasing, payment of invoices, payroll, financial auditing, human resources management, etc. This department is also responsible for the preparation of the financial reports and statements and the budget forecasts of the FNEC and of the Technology Department. In addition, the team administers all of the programs (agreements, bidding forms, interim and final report forms) for the member communities and gathers data for the drafting of reports for AANDC. The Department jointly works with the Finance and Administration Committee when financial and administrative decisions need to be made. The Programs and Finance works in cooperation with the other departments to carry out the various mandates of the FNEC.

Educational Services Department

The Educational services team is mandated by the General Assembly to take charge of a certain number of priority issues (vocational training, tuition fees, postsecondary, jurisdiction, etc.) for the FNEC. On the regional level, it achieves this end through research and consultation with the member communities. On the national level, the Coordinator and/or an FNEC representative, sit on national working groups liable to have an effect on the progress of these key issues. The team also offers pedagogical support to member communities, holds workshops and increasingly uses videoconferencing as a means to provide training. It works with the Finance Department on the management of federal programs such as Special Education, New Paths, Parental Involvement, Professional Development and others.

Technology Department

The mandate of the FNEC's Technology Department is to promote and initiate the use of ICT in schools by teacher and students. This is done by recognizing and addressing the contributing factors that affect the ICT delivery in First Nations Schools throughAboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada initiatives. The Technology Department also provide a technical support services including videoconference technologyes in 29 First Nations communities in Quebec. The recent acquisition of a videoconference bridge enables a better service to communities by linking them with other communities and external organizations, which is critical to the development of e-learning technologies. The FNEC's Technology Department is working with federal counterparts and regional agencies to develop unified connectivity support and a sustainability model for First Nations in Quebec.
