News Path for Education
In 2003, the Gathering Strength program was renamed New Paths for Education. This program aims to finance actions that contribute to strengthening Aboriginal education and improving the quality of instruction in schools managed by First Nations.
It is important to note that a change has been made to the New Paths for Education Program: the First Nations SchoolNet Program, Parental Involvement and Professional Development initiatives have been included on one form.
The objectives are as follows:
- Strengthen First Nations education management and governance capacity through local capacity and educational institutional development.
- Improve the effectiveness of classroom instruction through curriculum and language development, improvements to instructional techniques and information and communications technologies (ICT).
- Support community and parental involvement in the education of children and youth that is conducive to a supportive learning environment.
- Assist band-operated schools recruit and retain qualified teachers and educators, and to provide them with professional development opportunities.
- Promote ICT.
